Rozelle House and the Maclaurin Art Gallery offer an interesting experience for visitors with an interest in Fine Art and Contemporary Work.
Rozelle house is the home to the local authority museum and gallery service, offering a broad variety of exhibits. Following recent building works, including a lift to the upper floors, Rozelle House has now reopened with ‘Tam O’Shanter – a Tale’ by Alexander Goudie and the Ayrshire Yeomanry Exhibition on show. Within the house visitors will find The Craft Shop and Rozelle Tearoom. In the adjacent parkland there is an installation of sculptures by Ayr -born artist, Ronnie Rae. A work by Henry Moore is displayed within Rozelle House.
Rozelle House is the administrative base for the management of South Ayrshire Council museum and art collections. These collections include Fine Art, Natural History, Geology, Textiles & Costume, Archaeology, Social History and much more, including material from the former burghs of Ayr, Maybole, Troon, Girvan and Prestwick. Council staff also manages the collections of the Maclaurin Trust
The Maclaurin Trust is responsible for managing the bequest of Mrs Mary Ellen Maclaurin who left a substantial sum in 1971 to have an Art Gallery or Museum erected within the Royal Burgh of Ayr in memory of her husband, James Henry Maclaurin. The Maclaurin Galleries opened in June 1976, and consists of 4 galleries, which are attached via corridors to Rozelle House.
Income from this bequest is applied to the purchase of exhibits for the gallery. Since 1981, the Trust has been collecting paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints acquired by commission or purchased from artists or art dealers. The emphasis is on the modern period, loosely defined as 1900 - 1990 and includes works by John Bellany, Ian Hamilton Finlay, David Nash, Alan Davie, Bridget Riley, Sir Terry Frost, Patrick Heron and other key figures of the modern period. The collection also includes a small body of work from the 19th Century, previously in the possession of the owners of Rozelle House.

The Ayr Fort Players have been entertaining
people in Ayrshire, and across South West Scotland, since 1946. We have
achieved many notable successes, including the first amateur production
of Tony Roper's "The Steamie",
which played to packed houses during the 1997 Ayr Festival.
Over the years the Ayr Fort Players have built a reputation for entertaining
the public with classic farces,
quality modern drama, Scottish
comedies and stage productions of popular
TV sitcoms.
The players put on one major production in the spring of each year, performing
at venues in and around Ayr.

For the past fifty years, or more, there have been three amateur drama groups in Ayr. Sadly, one of these groups, the Ayr Players, has rung down the curtain for the final time.
The Ayr Players have been entertaining audiences of all ages for over 80 years. But the group, who used to be based in the Civic Theatre, have struggled to find a suitable replacement venue since the building was closed.
Despite trying to keep the club going using church halls, membership figures in the Ayr Players has fallen over the last few years and in 2011 the group decided to hang up their costumes and bid the stage adieu.
Funds remaining in the group's bank account were presented to the motor neurone disease (MND) Scotland charity.
