1986 - 1991
This informal group of six West of Scotland Art Galleries and Museums was formed in 1983 with the aim of fostering co-operation on matters of common interest and making better use of the resources which existed within the group.
The Group members were Paisley Museum and Art Gallery (Renfrew District Council, represented by the exhibition officer James Erskine), The Dick Institute (Kilmarnock and Loudoun District Council, represented by their Exhibitions Officer David Bett and or their Conservation Officer Bruce), The McLean Art Gallery (Inverclyde District Council, represented by their Curator Val Boa), The Lillie Art Gallery (Bearsden and Milngavie District Council represented by their curator Liz Dent), The Maclaurin Art Gallery (The Maclaurin Trust with Kyle and Carrick District Council represented by the gallery director Mike Bailey) and The Gracefield Arts Centre (Dumfries and Galloway Regional Council initially represented by the Art Advisor John Rhind and subsequently by the gallery exhibition organiser John Stewart Young).
The organization of exhibitions was undertaken to the mutual benefit of all participating members. Between 1986 and 1991 six major touring exhibitions were organised by the group. All project received financial support from the Scottish Arts Council and individual sponsors.
