Ayr Intimate Opera

Ayr Intimate Opera evolved from the Arran Choir under the musical direction of Raymond Bramwell.  Producer Bill Grierson was already a well established opera producer, working with a number of companies in the west of Scotland.

The company, with the support of Donny McIntyre, restored the stage at Ayr Pavilion and mounted a series of operas in the building between 1973 and 1983.

The company's productions included:

1972 The Magic Flute Mozart
1973 Faust Gounod
1974 Il Trovatore Verdi
1975 La Boheme Puccini
1976 Merry Wives of Windsor Nicolai
1977 Carmen Bizet
1978 Madam Butterfly Puccini
1979 Sandrina Mozart
1979 West Side Story Bernstein
1980 Rape of Lucretia Britten
1980 La Traviata Verdi
1981 Tales of Hoffmann Offenbach
1982 Hansel & Gretel Humperdinck
1983 Patience Sullivan

The Magic Flute, Faust and Rape of Lucretia were presented in the Craigie College Lecture Theatre.  Sandrina, Rape of Lucretia and Hansel and Gretel were presented in collaboration with Ayr Arts Guild as part of the Ayr Concert Series.
