William Crozier was born in 1930 at Yoker, Scotland, of Irish descent. Later his family moved to Troon, Ayrshire.
Between 1949 and 1953 he studied at Glasgow School of Art. Subsequently, Crozier has lived and worked in Paris, Dublin, Malaga, New York, London and the South West of Ireland.
The artist is a former Head of Fine Art at Winchester School of Art, living and working in Winchester, Verona and London
Now in his eighty first year, Crozier has had a fruitful professional career spanning six decades. He is regarded as one of the greatest colourists and image-makers of post-War British painting.
In 1951 Crozier had his first public exhibition in the Carnegie Library in Ayr, returning in 1985 for an exhibition of paintings and drawings at the Maclaurin Art Gallery. Since that time, he has been a frequent exhibitor with the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh.
The exhibition at the Maclaurin Art Gallery, in 1985, concentrated on Crozier's time in New York and the South West of Ireland. The catalogue was designed and produced by Mike Bailey who also undertook the photography and the exhibition installation.
