Spaces Opera Masterclass ~ Marie Claire Breen
Marie Claire is currently
on the Master of Opera course at the Alexander Gibson Opera School,
RSAMD, under the tuition of Patricia Hay. Within the RSAMD, Marie Claire
has taken part in several competitions, concerts and operas.
Marie’s opera roles include Dunyasha in Prokofiev's War and Peace, Najade
in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos and Rowan in Britten's The Little Sweep.
She was the recipient of the Governors’ Recital Prize for Singing 2009
following which she recorded a special performance for BBC Radio Scotland's
Classics Unwrapped Show. In 2008 she was awarded the Norma Greig Prize
for French Song and was second prize winner in the A. Ramsay Calder Debussy
Prize and was the winner of the Hugh S Roberton Prize for Scots Song.
Recent engagements include two performances in America at St. Mary's College
of Maryland's annual River Concert Series where she performed with trumpet virtuoso
John Wallace and other internationally acclaimed trumpeters and public masterclass
with Malcolm Martineau as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.
Marie Claire is currently preparing the role of Susanna in Le Nozze of
Figaro for the RSAMD's 2010 opera production and is due to perform Vaughan
Williams’ Serenade to Music at the BBC Proms 2010 with the BBC Scottish
Symphony Orchestra.
Marie Claire has also been selected as a Scottish Opera Emerging Artist
for their 2010/2011 season.
