Ayrshire Arts Network  ~  About Us

Ayrshire Arts Network

Welcome to the Ayrshire Arts Network.

We hope you find our web site interesting and informative.

In January 2009 the Network facilitated the open meeting to gather views following the closure of Ayr's Gaiety Theatre.  The local authority responded to the mood of the meeting and has developed a proposal for the revival of the theatre in collaboration with a local theatre trust. The network has contributed to the consultations on this and other cultural activities, including a cultural strategy for South Ayrshire.

By working together, we hope to increase and improve the arts provision in all areas and encourage more artists to work and settle here. Increased arts opportunities will enhance the cultural environment within the area and contribute to our vital tourist industry.

In June 2010 the Network organised a Betworking Event in Ayr Town Hall.  This offered members and visitors the opportunity to meet other members and to participate in a visual arts seminar and Scota poetry event.  An Opera Masterclass, directed by Elizabeth Connell, provided an opportunity for young singers to demonstrate their volcal powers and to benefit from Ms Connell's wide expereince.

Network Aims

• A database of members and their specific interests has been compiled.

• A series of workshops, providing professional development skills, has been initiated.  Further workshops are planned for 2010.

• A web site has been established.  It includes information on events and local arts practitioners.  In addition to current information, the website is developing an Arts Archive that highlights the achievements of local practitioners and groups during the past 75 years.

• A directory of member practitioners is included in the new web site.

• The website includes slide shows highlighting the work of local groups.

• Open Meetings provide a forum for our members to voice their needs and wishes and to meet like minded people.  They are an opportunity for the management committee to report on developments or to respond to specific issues.

• The Network facilitated the open meeting to gather views following the closure of Ayr Gaiety Theatre.

• The management committee is planning an arts event for spring 2010.  Financial support for this project has been received from the Scottish Arts Council (Awards for All).
